What child is this?
This song is one of my favorite Christmas songs and is based out of Luke chapter 1… It’s so beautiful, precious and amazing. Reading it you can really feel Mary’s heart and start to see how she felt so unworthy of the gift that God was giving her…realizing the fathers love is amazing. Now we all know that you cannot have a baby without being intimate with someone, but with God anything is possible. If Mary was to have a baby without the usual way of having a baby, then God was going to have that happen. God gives us things that we are not qualified to get, he gives us amazing gifts and nothing we can do can earn what he already has and nothing we do can make him not love us. Just like Elizabeth, her relative, was really old and was told that she could never have children, but still God blessed her with a child. When you realize how much God loves you, When you accept God into your heart and believe that with him, things are possible, then sometimes unexpected, unexplained things don’t seem quite so scary. It just makes you feel loved and wonderful. God has amazing things for you and nothing you could ever do, could make him love you less. So as you read these verses in this chapter, as you read the story of how Jesus came to be part of this world and change the way people might feel about unexplained things, just think of how Mary might have felt, and how surprised she must have been…and know that God is an amazing God, and this story was the start of how his son was brought into the world and it’s a blessing. Even if you are not a Christian, you can understand how Mary felt, especially if you have ever been told to do something that you felt was very impossible, but somehow you did it, and did it well.
Here is the story out of the bible:
Luke 1:26-38 New International Version (NIV)7
The Birth of Jesus Foretold
26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”
29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”
35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[a] the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month.37 For no word from God will ever fail.”
38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.
Have you ever been asked to do something that you felt was impossible, but somehow you ended up doing it, and did it well? How did you feel when you accomplished the impossible? Did it change your way of thinking for a moment? Answer in the comments below. Have a wonderful day and stay tuned for Blogmas day 3 🙂
